Navy sets several records at North Pole
New Delhi, May 5 (UNI) During its recently concluded first expedition to North Pole, the Indian Navy created several records, including becoming the first organisation in the world to touch the three Poles, including the Vertical Pole Mt Everest.
The 10-member team of the Indian Navy completed the expedition in March-April this year.
The team earned several 'firsts' by completing the mission. It earned the Navy the distinction of becoming the first organisation in the world to complete 'three poles' challenge -- climbing Everest and skiing to both the geographic poles.
The Navy team was the first Indian team to ski to the North Pole and the South Pole. At least three team members became first Indians to reach all the 'three poles'.
Interestingly, Surgeon Lt Ajay Sharma became the first doctor in the world to ski to both the geographic poles. MCERA I Raj Kumar became the first skydiver-cum-submariner in the world to ski to both the geographic poles.
