Malaysian Maxis Comm to invest $500cr in India

Kolkata, May 05: Maxis Communications, Malayasia's top mobile phone firm, has proposed to invest USD 400 to 500 crores in India by 2009-10 to expand its network, company's chief executive Sandip Das said here today.

''We plan to beef up our presence in India in the next two years,'' Mr Das said at a news conference.

He said the proposed investment would be a mix of debt and equity.

Maxis is the 74 per cent stakeholder in Aircel Cellular Limited, which operates in ten telecom circles in the country with Apollo Hospitals Enterprises enjoying the remaining shares.
