Kochi, May 5: Around 600 delegates will participate in the two-day 'International Rubber Conference,' organised by the Rubber Board, from May eight here.
Speaking to reporters here today, Board Chairman Sajan Peter said the conference was part of the the golden jubilee celebrations of the Board's extension and development schemes.
The conference would be inaugurated by Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Vayalar Ravi. It would have technical sessions on extension strategies in rubber plantation sector, community approach in rubber development programmes, working towards market-oriented extension in rubber sector, development initiatives in non-traditional region and research in rubber plantation development, he said.
Besides, renowed agriculture scientist Dr M S Swaminathan would present a paper on 'Agriculture Extension-the Way Forward,' he said.
Mr Peter said Union Commerce Secretary G K Pillai would present the best rubber exporter award to 'Pala Rubber Marketing Society' and two books on rubber would be released at the conference.
He said rubber production had increased by 35 times, area under rubber cultivation by 6.5 times and the productivity by 5.5 times during the last fifty years.
Delegates from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and African countries would participate in the conference.
