''The politicisation of inflation is not going to work in any part of the country, especially in Karnataka," AICC spokesman Manish Tewari told mediapersons. He said it was true that the people were concerned about the inflation. At the same time, they were also appreciating the steps taken by the Centre to bring down inflation and prices of essential commodities. ''It is clear that they (people) want to give time for the play of the measures taken by the government.'' Mr Tewari said the bandh had failed thoroughly and it could not evoke any favourable response from the people. The bandh could not make any impact on human life.

He said the bandh did not get support from even the constituents of the BJP-led Opposition NDA. "Ultimately, the BJP was left alone." Mr Tewari said the BJP had organised the bandh to serve as the first major attempt at rejuvenating the BJP after its senior leader L K Advani had been declared as the Prime Ministerial candidate.

''However, its efforts have failed.'' Accusing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of adopting double standards, the Spokesman said Mr Modi had claimed that there was no price rise in his state even while calling for an agitation against the Centre on the issue.

He asked the BJP to understand the clear message handed out to them by the people by defeating its bandh call.
