Howrah Textile Park to generate employment for 10,000 people
Kolkata, May 05 (UNI) An "Integrated Textile Park" would be set up in neighbouring Howrah district by Chamber of Textile Trade and Industry (COTTI) with an initial investment of Rs 550 crore, COTTI president V K Binaykia said today.
Addressing media persons here, Mr Binaykia said a total of around 150 units were expected to be set up in this textile park on 100 acres of land which would generate direct employment for 10,000 people.
''West Bengal, once the pioneer in textile production, has witnessed a setback in the its manufacturing activities in the last three decades and the Textile Park will showcase the potential of the region in line with the rapid evolution and new opportunities at national and international level,'' Mr Binaykia observed.
He also announced that COTTI would also organise "TexVision 2008,'' a mega textile fair here from May 7 - 9 to develop entrepreneurship among its members drawn from various segments of textile trade and industry.
Mr Binaykia reminded that in the last couple of years sharp shift in consumer's preference, changes in fashion, textile production pattern and marketing strategy was witnessed while phasing out of quota regime on textiles has added a new dimension which also opened opportunities as well as challenges.
''To gear up with the changing scenario the need of the hour is to update ourselves. With the latest developments and the trends prevailing world wide, 'TexVision 2008' is the right step in right direction,'' he maintained.
