Rs 10 mn looted from eastern Nepal bank

Kathmandu, May 4: About Rs 10 million was looted today from from a commercial bank in Jhapa, eastern Nepal.

A group of about half a dozen masked men robbed about Rs 7.5 million from a branch of Laxmi Bank at Damak Bazaar, Kantipur quoted police as saying. The bank is only one km from the Damak Area Police Office and security has been beefed up at the highway sections in Morang, Sunsari and Jhapa districts following the loot. Police initiated investigation into the incident and no one has been arrested so far.

Meanwhile, an armed group looted Rs one million and gold and silver ornaments from a jewellery shop at Bayargan VDC-8 in Morang district.

The group robbed Homnath Adhikari's shop at Ramailo Bazaar, about eight km south of the East-West Highway, according to District Police Office, Morang.
