PMK flays Govt's 'failure' to devolve power to local bodies
Puducherry, May 4 (UNI) Condemning the Puducherry administration for alleged failure to devolve powers to the elected local body representatives, PMK Parliamentary Party Leader Ramadass today cautioned that if the administration failed to take immediate action, the matter woud be brought to the notice of Parliament putting the government in crisis.
In a statement here today Prof Ramadass said he was not satisfied with the announcement made by the Chief Minister in the territorial Assembly enhancing the allowances of the local body representatives.
The government should shed its ''autocratic'' attitude and come forward to devolve powers to the local bodies at least as recommended by the Ramanathan Committee, he added.
He wondered why the Chief Minister, who was striving to get full statehood for Puducherry since there was no much powers for the State Assembly, was reluctant to devolve powers to the local bodies.
