Hooghly, West Bengal, May 4(UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today lambasted the Congress for its ''dual role'' in politics.
Her comments came hours after WBPCC president Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told Congress supporters to vote for the Trinamool Congress if they find no other opposition candidate in coming Pancyayat election at their respective centre to defeat ruling CPI(M).
Ms Banerjee told reporters after addressing a public meeting at Pursura that it was a fresh gimmick on the part of the Congress leaders to divide opposition votes, an advantage to the CPI(M).
She said how could a party leader say while his leadership embraced support of the CPI(M) to hold on power at the Centre. Ms Banerjee said it was another conspiracy to divide votes.
''If they (Congress) really wanted to defeat the CPI(M) why those (Congress leaders) did not have an ally in Lok Sabha or Assembly or even in Zilla Parishad (panchayat) polls'', she asked.
The Trinamool chief said the latest version of the Congress leader to vote for Trinamool Congress was to cover up weaknesses to put up candidate where it has no support base or even dared to face the CPI(M).
