New Delhi, May 4: The Election Commission has directed its officials to keep a close watch on expenses incurred by candidates and political parties contesting the Karnataka assembly election.
EC sources said, during campaigning, there are reports of large scale mass procurement and movement of campaign materials such as flags and banners. Such expenses may go unaccounted unless specifically monitored, it added.
The commission has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to ensure that each candidate gives details about the purchase of campaign material in the indent letter format available with the Returning Officer, District Electoral Officer (DEO) and CEO.
The EC said description, quantity, price, source and destination of the campaign material along with an indicative date of transportation of such package should be given in details.
In case campaigning material for distribution to candidates is procured by the political party, it could apply to the concerned DEO or with the CEO with the details, the EC added.
