Bareilly, May 4: It has been 12 years, but meritorious students belonging to minority, backward and Scheduled Caste (SC) in Uttar Pradesh are still awaiting a hike in their scholarship. A mere sum of Rs 25 in today's 'expensiveness' help them a little to meet their education expenses.
In today's time, where prices of basic needs viz food, clothing, shelter, education and treatment have increased 400 times, these students are reviving the same amount of scholarship since 1996. The scholarship scheme, which began with an aim to promote education and helping poor class, seems to be dying somewhere under the tall claims of political parties.
One cannot even afford a school bag in Rs 25, then what about buying books and copies.
Even students have to make hard efforts to get this amount, which comes to them in biannual installments.
Sources today told the sources, ''students of standard I to V get Rs 25 per month scholarship, while VI to VIII reveive Rs 40 monthly.
Similarly, standard IX to X monthly get for Rs 60, XI and XII Rs 140, BA (I) Rs 140, BA (II) and (III) Rs 180, MA Rs 330, while those who pursue engineering get Rs 330.
