Haryana procures over 48 lakh tonne wheat

Chandigarh, May 4 (UNI) An estimated 48.72 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has arrived in the mandis of Haryana so far during the current Rabi season.

While giving this information today, Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said that out of this, 48.22 lakh metric tonnes had been purchased by six government procuring agencies and traders had purchased 50,591 metric tonnes wheat.

He said that last year 33.49 lakh metric tonnes wheat was purchased by the government agencies at the minimum support price of Rs 750 per quintal besides a bonus of Rs 100 per quintal was also given to the farmers. This year farmers are being given Rs 1000 per quintal for procurement of their produce.

While giving the details of the arrival of the wheat in the mandis, he said that HAFED had procured 17.97 lakh MTs, Food and Supplies Department had procured 9.94 lakh MTs of wheat, Food Corporation of India 7.35 lakh MTs, Haryana Warehousing Corporation 4.43 lakh MTs, Confed 4.30 lakh MTs and Haryana Agro Industries Corporation 4.20 lakh MTs.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that Sirsa district was leading in wheat arrivals with 6.22 lakh metric tonnes followed by Karnal with 5.88 lakh metric tonnes and Kaithal with 5.43 lakh MTs.
