Guntur chilli market yard fire contained
Guntur, May 4 (UNI) Fire that broke out at the Asia's biggest chilli market Yard yesterday, causing heavy damage worth crores of rupees, was contained in the early hours with the continuous effort of the district administration and Fire services department.
Police said almost all flames, emanating from all godowns and sheds in the market yard, were doused. The Fire tenders were still struggling to stop the smoke coming out from the piles of gutted chillies.
The district administration swung into action to ascertain the loss in the fire mishap where the farmers, including small and marginal peasants stocked their chilli crop to buy trade in the market.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy along with the officials and ministers concerened visited the yard and took stock of the situation.
Dr Reddy instructed the district administration to submit a priliminary report on the loss that occurred afer the mishap by this evening.
