Former boxer complains about IOA's attitude

By Staff

New Delhi, May 4 (UNI) As the IOA fianlly decided to take notice of former athletes and Olympians, there are a few, who still aspire to get the recoognition.

Venkatesan Devarajan is one such Indian who has given alot to the country but now, when his career is over, the former boxer complains about the Indian Olympic Associations indifferent attitude towards him and other such countrymen.

Devarajan was the first Indian boxer to win a bronze medal in the boxing World Cup and that was in 1994.

''Indian Olympic Association has never sent a single invitation to me for any sports function till today.

''It upsets me very much, if you don't honour the real achievers then how will get medal in Olympics,'' Devarajan complained.

The IOA recently, ended KPS Gill's 15-year-old regime and gave former Olympians to take charge of the Indian Hockey Federation to help the country regain its lost glory.

The 34-year-old former Indian boxer also endorsed the Sports Minister MS Gill's statement that the torch relay should only include sportspersons.

''Our Sports Minister's was right that the torchbeares should only have sportspersons,'' he added.
