Shillong, May 4 (UNI) Former Meghalaya Public Works Department Minister Zenith M.Sangma has filed his nomination papers as a Congress candidate for bypolls to the Tura Lok Sabha seat.

He filed his papers before the Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills District yesterday.

The former Congress legislator was accompanied by his brother and senior Congress MLA Mukul M Sangma and other senior members.

The bypoll, scheduled to be held on May 22, has been necessitated after Mr Sangma quit the lower House after being elected as MLA in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly on March three.

Mr Zenith, who lost the March three Assembly polls to Adolf Lu Hitler R Marak(NCP), was asked to contest the elections after his elder brother decided to continue with state politics.

Earlier, Agatha K.Sangma, the youngest daughter of former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma filed her nomination papers as the NCP candidate.

If Agatha wins, she will be the youngest sitting MP.

The 27-year-old lawyer and environmentalist has decided to follow in the political footsteps of her father and assured the people to represent their voices in Parliament.

''It was the desire of the people and I have to raise their voice in the corridors of Parliament,'' Ms Agatha said.

Meanwhile, both the candidates exuded to win the bypoll, as they began to woo voters across the three districts of Garo Hills.
