Mysore, May 4 (UNI) Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi today exuded confidence that the Congress would emerge with an absolute majority in the Karnataka Assembly elections.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the main agenda of the party was to rout the BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections and install a stable Congress Government in the state.

Defending the party's stand on supportng former Chief Minister S Bangarappa in Shikaripura Assembly segment in Shimoga, Mr Ravi said the party's intention was to defeat the BJP rather than Mr B S Yeddyurappa in that constituency.

Referring to the price rise of foodgrains, Mr Ravi said the situation would be brought under control in the next two weeks.

Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes, who participated in the election campaign at Nanjangud, said the price rise in the country would not affect the prospects of the Congress in the Assembly elections and the prices would be controlled shortly.

He said the election manifesto was prepared with an aim to help all sections of the society besides providing facilities to farming community.

Mr Fernandes to the people to reject other parties which had failed to provide good governance during their coalition regime.
