Lahore, May 3 : Irked by recent statement by PCB officials about fast bowler Shoiab Akhtar's fate at IPL (Indian Premier League), the head of the tribal hearing Akhtar's appeal against his five-year ban, has asked the PCB to explain why its officials had been making statements when the matter was lying sub-judice before it.
Tribal head Aftab Farrukh said that he had taken notice of some news items appearing in the media. "I as Chairman and not the tribunal have asked for explanation. When they reply and I find that they have gone out of the parameter then I will place it before the tribunal. First I want to know what it is. If they are within the intentions of what we have expressed in our order, then it is alright. But if they haven't, then I will place it before the tribunal to consider what action we can take," The News quoted Farrukh as saying.
He added, "The whole point of seeking explanation is that when the matter is subjudice, the Board has to proceed, either within 'our order or through us. They can't overshoot us if there is some tendency of that, I will put it before the tribunal for consideration. As far as the tribunal is concerned, the Board, Chairman or any objective authority is a party before it so they can't overshoot us."
"The board can do anything they like what the tribunal has said or what the tribunal wants, they can execute that. That's the legal point of view", he added.
There have been a number of statements from the legal advisor of the board and some board officials in which they have commented on the issue. One official even said that he did not think Shoaib could play in the IPL because of a condition in IPL rules that does not allow players banned by their home board to participate in the league.
