Fatehgarh Sahib, May 3 (UNI) Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee(SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar today said the SGPC cannot seek an explanation from Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti on media reports of his justifying the demand for a separate Sikh homeland during his current visit to New York.
Talking to media persons after visiting Diwan Todar Mal's Jahaz Haveli which SGPC recently gained control, Mr Makkar said he held Vedanti in high esteem keeping in view the post he held and thus was unable to seek any explanation from him.
Jathedar Vedanti will return to India around May 10 and he will discuss the issue with him. After seeing the media reports he had telephoned Vedanti and the Jathedar had refuted these reports. Mr Makkar also ruled out the possibility of sacking of Vedanti.
On Jahaz haveli, he said after gaining its control from Punjab Virasat Charitable Trust, the SGPC volunteers carried out measurements of the site and took pictures of inner and outer portions of the haveli. A nine-member committee, including himself, had been formed to preserve the haveli.
SGPC Director Education Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, Sirhind MLA Didar Singh Bhatti, Akali leaders Ranjit Singh Libra, Amarinder Singh Libra also expressed their views.
