Samajwadi Party denies AGP-BJP deal
Guwahati, May 3 (UNI) UNPA convenor Amar Singh today claimed that the Assam Ganasang Parishad (AGP) is very much with them and the reports of the party's coalition with the BJP are rumours.
''Let me inform you that the AGP is very much with the UNPA, which will soon have a pan India presence. Mr Brindabon Goswami (AGP president) is very much with us,'' Mr Singh said while addressing a press meet here.
The SP general secretary also clarified that there was nothing between the AGP and BJP.
''These are all rumours spread by the BJP,'' Mr Singh added.
The SP leader, who along with Mr Goswami flew in to the city from New Delhi yesterday, further clarified that Chandrababu Naidu, Farooq Abdullah, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Brindabon Goswami were all with the UNPA.
The UNPA convenor also welcomed the appeal of the All Assam Student Union (AASU) for uniting all the regional forces in the state.
According to the AGP president, ''There were some rounds of discussions with the BJP but they were not going to have any truck with them,'' The majority of the AGP wanted a seat sharing arrangement with the BJP while, Mr Goswami favoured the UNPA.
