Price situation under control:AP CM
Hyderabad, May 3 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy tonight maintained that ''the price situation is well under control'' in the State.
Talking to newspersons here, he said the steps taken by his Government to check price rise had started paying dividends.
The prices of Redgram and edible oil had already started coming down and they will come down further'' he added.
''Vegetable prices are also okay now'', Dr Reddy said, adding that the Horticultural Department had initiated steps to increase its production on a large scale in the State.
The Chief Minister had directed the officials concerned to step up vigilance raids to unearth hoarding by unscruplous traders and prevent them from creating any artificial scarcity.
The Government, in an effort to provide food security to the poor, had launched a Rs two-a-kilo rice scheme. The Government would provide redgram and palmoil at subsidised rates to them from June, taking the total food subsidy to Rs 2,370 crore.
