Bangalore, May 3: AICC convener Kapil Sibal today took strong exception to Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior BJP leader L K Advani comparing politics to the ongoing Indian Premier League T20 Cricket and stating that the Congress has no captain.
''Advani, named the Prime Ministerial candidate by the party, should not compare politics to cricket since politics is a partnership and cricket is for entertainment. Political partnership is for development of the country, while cricket is played to provide entertainment to the people. When such is the equation, how can a leader of his stature compare these two,'' he asked.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Sibal said the BJP, which had partnered with the JD(S) to form a coalition government, had provided enough entertainment during their 20-month rule in Karnataka and denial of power to the BJP was mainly due to rivalry in partnership and nothing to do with cricket.
He said Mr Advani should realise that the people of Karnataka were fed up with infighting and hampering of developmental activities during its 20-month coalition rule. ''What people now want is a stable government and a government which can produce results. Politics of bargaining is not good for the country.
BJP-JD(S) continuously fought for sharing portfolios and indulged in pulling each other's leg and never concentrated on reaching out to the people,'' he added.
Claiming that there was a wave in favour of the Congress in the state, Mr Sibal said ''the writing on the wall for the BJP and JD(S) is very clear.'' Referring to a statement by Mr Advani that the BJP was ready to sit in the Opposition if it did not get a clear majority, he said ''we will ensure that they sit in the Opposition after the polls.''
