Mysore, May 3 (UNI) Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Mallikarjuna Kharge today said his party was planning to support an independent candidate for the Davanagare Assembly Constituency as the party candidate's nomination had been rejected.

Speaking to newsmen at Nanjangud in the district, he said the party could take a decision on fielding an independent candidate in another two to three days. The aim was to retain the seat.

The Congress candidate's nomination was rejected due to a technical mistake while filing the papers.

The party would now think of winning the seat rather than discussing the mistakes. At the same time they would ensure such mistakes never happened in future.

Mr Kharge claimed the Congress had been receiving overwhelming support from the people of the state and there was no doubt in the party coming back to power with a majority on its own.

Referring to the party withdrawing its candidate against Former Chief Minister Bangarappa in Shikaripura Constituency in Shimoga, Mr Kharge said the party's main aim was defeating the BJP.

Earlier, addressing election rallies at Gunddlpet in Chamarajanagara and Nanjangud in Mysore District, Mr Kharge appealed to the people to extend their support to the Congress which was the only party which would provide stable government as proved earlier.
