Rupee opens low at 40.52 against per USD
Mumbai, May 2: Rupee today resumed low at 40.52/54 against per US dollar, with a modest loss of two paise from the previous day's close of 40.50/52, on fresh buying support of dollar by foreign bankers. As trading resumed after yesterday's holiday, rupee eased to its lowest in nearly six weeks on Friday, due to heavy dollar demand from oil companies and gold traders to meet import commitments.
Later, it was trading in a wide range and quoted between 40.50 and 40.70 per dollar during the mid-session, just off an intraday low of 40.71, which was the weakest since March 17, dealers added.
