Nautical Surveyor arrested for accepting Rs 2 lakh bribe
Mumbai, May 2 (UNI) A Nautical Surveyor was arrested by officials of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting Rs 2 lakh as bribe from a merchant vessel owner here.
Sikander Maulana Mhalsale was nabbed yesterday by the CBI sleuths while accepting Rs two lakh bribe from him.
They also seized several bank accounts and property documents that he bought here and Pune, sources added.
The CBI officials said on March 3 this year, the vessel, MB Golila, belonging to Heena Shipping and Forwarding (M) Private Limited was halted by Mhalsale, who was working as Nautical Surveyor with mercantile marine department. He also detained all crew members of the vessel for 22 days. He then demanded Rs 4 lakh from the owner for clearance of the vessel.
The owner agreed to pay the money in instalment. Simultaneously, he lodged a complaint with CBI. Following which, Mhalsale was nabbed, sources said.
He was presented before Additional Sessions Judge (Ms) C K Bhedi, who remanded Mhalsale to police custody till May six.
