IPL is not just money, says McCullum

By Staff

Chelmsford, May 2 (UNI) New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Brendon McCullum predicts that the lure of the cash rich Indian Premier League would eventually prove too much for England's best players, although it would not necessarily be money to make them crack.

McCullum said a bi-product of the fortunes to be made in the IPL is the presence of the cream of the world's cricketing talent.

''I don't know the ins and outs of it - but I'm sure they'd love to be part of it,'' he said.

''I'm sure they'll be sitting back wishing they were able to be a part of it.

''It's not just the money, but the tournament itself - the opportunity to play with some of the greatest players in the world, an opportunity you would never otherwise get; sitting in a dressing room with guys like Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly and working out how they go about the game. You can't buy that experience,'' he said.

''I think if the England guys do get an opportunity, they'll cherish it as much as we have,'' the wicketkeeper added.

McCullum has arrived late for the early stages of New Zealand's tour of England, along with his captain Daniel Vettori, after their Indian adventure.

He was delighted with his involvement in the inaugural staging of the Twenty20 tournament.

''We probably didn't realise how big the tournament and the following was going to be until we arrived over there.

''As soon as you arrived, you started to work out it was like something you've never been a part of before. It was huge - and it continued to snowball.

''I'm sure we'll all look back on it as a pretty defining moment in terms of international cricket,'' he added.
