Integrated solid waste managemnt project prepared: CM

Puducherry, May 2 (UNI) The Puducherry administration has prepared an integrated solid waste management project at a cost of Rs 47 crore to provide quality service to the people, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to the discussion on demand for grants for Local Administration and Hindu Religious Endowment, Mr Rangasamy said the project would be implemented in Puducherry and Ozhukarai municipalities and the administration propose to invite global tenders to select reputed firms for its implementation.

The administration proposed to engage self-help groups through village panchayats to carry out cleaning works in rural areas, he said.

The administration has so far constituted three state finance commissions and the two reports submitted by the first state finance commission have been considered and accepted by the government, he said adding the existing financial powers of local bodies for the execution of civil works was being enhanced and the municipalities would have powers to spent Rs 30 lakh instead of Rs 10 lakh, commune panchayats Rs 20 lakh instead of Rs 10 lakh and village panchayat Rs 3 lakh instead of Rs one lakh.

The Chief Minister also enhanced the conveyance allowance and cell phone alowance of the municipality, commune panchayat and village panchayat presidents and members.

Steps would be taken to introduce e-governance in the lcoal administration, he said and added that a district planning committee would be set up in the local administration.
