China jails 30 rioters over Lhasa violence
Tibet, Apr 30, 2008 : A court in Tibet jailed 30 people, including six monks from three years to life for their roles in deadly riots in Tibetan capital Lhasa last month. The Lhasa Intermediate People's Court announced the verdicts at an "open trial" attended by more than 200 people.
Three monks got life imprisonment. It was the first batch of sentences announced since the March 14 violence, in which seven schools, five hospitals and 120 homes were set ablaze and 908 shops looted.
