New Delhi, May 1 (UNI) Praising his bowlers after defeating Royal Challengers in the IPL encounter, Delhi Daredevils captain Virender Sehwag said the Twenty20 cricket is not tailormade for batsmen and his bowlers have proved it in his side's previous performances.
''It is great to see that pace bowlers are performing on Indian pitches. Even in T20 cricket which is regarded as the batsmen's game my bowlers have shown that bowlers too can perform in this format,'' Sehwag told mediapersons, here last night after the his side's 10-run win over Royal challengers.
Glenn McGrath produced best figures in the brief history of the IPL tonight whereas Ferveez Mahroof bowled the most economical spell in the tournament. Both were awarded man of the match for their superb bowling performances.
Left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori who was drafted in place of Mahroof for the match will not be available for the rest of the tournament.
Sehwag, terming Vettori as a great bowler, said his team will miss the services of the left-arm spinner who returned with figures of one for 19 of his four overs.
''Any team will miss Vettori and we are no different. He showed how important he is to any side by bowling crucial second last over,'' he stated.
The Daredevils' skipper exuded confidence that his side will carry its good form and will secure a semifinal berth in the tournament.
''We have a good blend of players and our performance so far has been up to the mark. If we continue to perform the same way, I am sure that we will be there in the semifinals,'' he said.
The home team's innings was bolstered by a superb 98-run second wicket partnership between Gautam Gambhir and Shikhar Dhawan that helped Daredevils post a challenging total of 191 against the Royal Challengers.
''They (Gambhir and Dhawan) set the platform for us at the top-order and it was their effort that helped us to reach a score of 191,'' he added.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Royal Challengers' captain Rahul Dravid said his team has not been able to lift itself from its past performances.
''We are disappointed. It was an important game for us and we should have won this one. We gave 15 to 20-runs extra and that cost us the game,'' he said.
Dravid, however praised McGrath and Vettori for their match winning performances.
''In a T20 game one or two overs decide the game. McGrath and Vettori provided some crucial overs to Daredevils. They bowled exceptionly well,'' Dravid said.
Despite the loss Dravid is keen to bounce back and for that he was ready to make some changes in the squad if there is any need.
''There are still nine matches left in the tournament. We will bounce back. There are some good quality players like Misbah-ul-Haq who are sitting on the bench. Kumble is also recovering from the injury and I am hopefull that he will join the squad,'' Dravid stated.
