Nagpur, May 1 (UNI) Former MP Banwarilal Purohit has condoled the death of noted Gandhian Nirmala Deshpande, who passed away in New Delhi today.
In a condolence message here, Mr Purohit said Ms Deshpande's death was not only a loss to the Sarvodaya movement, but to the entire nation. ''She was a torch-bearer of the cause of peace, and tried her level best to create an atmosphere of amity between India and Pakistan,'' he said.
''Despite the creed of Sarvodaya to stay away from politics, Ms Deshpande tried to achieve an unusual partnership with the country's political leadership to further the cause of Sarvodaya and promote welfare in totality,'' Mr Purohit said. She represented perhaps the last generation of Sarvodaya leaders, highlighting simplicity of thought and action in every sphere of public and personal life, he said.
''Her demise is a personal loss to me, in the sense that we were in constant touch with each other in matters of common interest,'' Mr Purohit added.
