Greater Noida, May 1(UNI) Gagan Verma shot a birdie-free round of five-over 77 but he managed to hang on to a lead which was cut to a solitary stroke in the third round of LG Jaypee Open Amateur Golf here today, Gagan's three day total stood at 3-under 213.
Rahul Bajaj followed a similar route as Gagan to finish the day with a 4-over 76 to move closer to the leader at 214. Karan Vasudeva fired the day's best of 5-under 67 to be in contention at 216. Kapil Kumar was fourth at 218 while Manav Das was fifth at 219. Gopal Singh and Arshdeep Tiwana were tied for the sixth spot at 220.
After making a steady start on the opening hole where he made a par, Gagan, made a bogey on the par-4 second. His four-feet par-putt kissed the lip and rolled out. It was not a freak incident as it has happened on 10 more occasions during the round, four of which resulted in a bogey-interestingly one each on the last two holes of the either nine (8th, 9th, 17th and 18th).
Rahul Bajaj, meanwhile, managed a sole birdie on the par-5 third but lost his way from there making bogeys on the fourth, fifth, tenth, 11th and the 18th to emerge as the strongest contender.
