Culling in Tripura still on, expected to complete by Saturday

Agartala, May 1 (UNI) Culling operations are expected to finish within a couple of days in the bird flu-affected Bisahlgarh sub-division and Mohanpur block area of West Tripura.

Animal resource officials said that altogether 47,871 poultry birds have so far been culled in Mohanpur Block and 32,000 in Bishalgarh sub-division.

''A pacakage of Rs 16.65 lakhs has already been paid to the affected families in Mohanpur Block till Wednesday,'' SDM (Sadar) D C Das said today.

Meanwhile, an Awarness Programme was also organised at Khowai sub-division to make people aware of the deadly H5N1 virus and how to combat it effect and spread.

Khowai Sub-division Chairperson Beauty Sarkar said that the people should inform the animal resources officials of any unnatural deaths in their locality and not hide such incidents as it may adversely affect the remaining livestock.

''Although till now, no occurrence of bird flu has been reported in Khowai Sub-division but all the bordering areas have been put on high alert and BSF has been asked to step up its vigil so that no livestock can enter from Bangladesh'' said an official of the animal resource department.

No fresh outbreak has also been reported from any part of Tripura but the animal resource department is taking precautionary measures by carrying out awareness programmes across the state.
