Armour Day celebration at Kharga Corps
Chandigarh, May 1 (UNI) Traditional laying of wreath at the Kharga War Memorial by Kharga Corps General Officer Commanding Lieutenant General JP Singh marked the 'Armour Day' with due solemnity and spirit today.
A host of other officers, Junior Commissioned Officers and Sowars of the Risala (Personnel Below Officer Rank) also paid tributes to the martyrs of the Armoured Corps, who sacrificed their lives for the motherland, in various war and counter terrorism operations.
A special social get-together was organised to celebrate this day in a befitting manner, which was graced by a large number of serving and retired officers of the station.
This day is celebrated as 'Armour Day' in the Indian Army, as on this day, in the late 1930s, the Cavalry of yore was mechanised by converting from Horses to modern day Battle Tanks.
Lieutenant General Singh, General felicitated all ranks of the Armoured Corps on this occasion.
