Steps to withdraw poll-related cases being taken: CM

Puducherry, Apr 30 (UNI) The administration will take steps to withdraw the election-related cases registered in the Union Territory during the last Assembly and Parliamentary elections after obtaining permission from Election Commission (EC), Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.

Replying to a question, he said 75 cases were pending and steps were being taken to get the permission of the EC to withdraw them.

To another question by R Viswanathan (CPI), Labour Minister E Valsaraj said two workers of a private industry in Karaikal were killed in two seperate accidents inside the factory.

Both of them were from north India, he said adding that while one of them died on July 27 last year was given a compensation of Rs 1.60 lakh by the management apart from other benefits like PF and ESI, another person who died on September 23 last year was given a compensation of Rs one lakh.

The CPI member said it was a wrong information and claimed that at least six workers were killed in accidents in the factory, while the death of only two were registered.
