SP member urges govt to stop smuggling of garlic, apples from China
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) A Samajwadi Party member from Uttar Pradesh today urged the government to take the necessary measures to stop smuggling of garlic and apples from China to India via Nepal, alleging officials of Customs and the Seema Suraksha Bal(SSB) were colluding in facilitating it.
Raising the issue during the zero hour in the Lok Sabha, Ramjilal Suman said unchecked smuggling of garlic has led to a steep fall in its price in Etawah belt of UP, adding it has come down to Rs 850-900 per quintal from Rs 5,000 per quintal three months ago in the Gorakhpur market.
He demanded action against the Customs and SSB officials to prevent it to safequard the interests of farmers.
