Sharma group bags five of the six teachers seat in UP

Lucknow, Apr 30 (UNI) The strong Om Prakash Sharma group has won five out of six teachers seats in the biennial elections for eleven seats of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council held on April 28.

However, the Election Commission has cleared the result of only Bareilly teachers seat, while the result of rest four seats were expected to get the nod tonight.

In the Bareilly teachers seat, Subhash Chandra Sharma of the Om Prakash Sharma group was declared winner after recieving 3,278 first preference votes. In Lucknow teachers seat, Devi Dayal Shastri of the same group had emerged winner, while in Meerut teachers seat group leader Om Prakash Sharma himself was the winner.

In Faizabad-Gorakhpur teachers seat Dhruv Kumar Tripathi was the winner, while the Agra teachers seat was won by Jagveer Kishore Jain, both belonged to Sharma group.

All the winners except for Dhruv Kumar Tripathi, were re-elected to the state Legislative Council.

Results for the remaining Varanasi teachers seat and five graduate constituencies were expected late tonight.

Altogether fate of 180 candidates of which 46 for the teachers constituencies and rest 134 for the graduate seats had contested in the elections.

The teachers constituencies are Lucknow, Meerut, Faizabad-Gorakhpur, Agra, Varanasi and Bareilly, while the graduate seats are Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi and Allahabad-Jhansi.
