New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Continuing the sealing of units not covered under the 2021 Master Plan of Delhi, in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi today sealed 254 units in various parts of the city.

A total of 254 units were sealed in the city in areas like Trilok Puri, Lajpat Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Kirti Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Safdarjung Enclave, Malviya Nagar and Rohini, which do not enjoy exemption from sealing as per Master Plan-2021 and January 30 notification of the Central government, an MCD spokesperson said.

Of the 254 units, 82 units were sealed in Rohini, 33 in Shahdara(N), 27 in West zone, 25 in Central zone, 23 in Shahdara (S) zone and 21 each in Najafgarh and South zones, the spokesperson said.

For the third day, there was no sealing action in Sadar Paharganj zones, the spokesperson said. There was also no sealing in Civil lines and Karol Bagh zone.

With today's sealing the total number of units sealed since it began yesterday has come to 864.

The drive began on Monday after the end of the deadline for traders operating on such stretches to shut their shops.

The Supreme Court had on March 10 asked the civic body to seal within three months all shops not covered by the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 or the Central government notification of January 30, 2008.

The MCD had issued a notice asking owners to stop commercial activities within 45 days.

Meanwhile, protests against the sealing operations continued.

Under guidance of Delhi Pradesh BJP President, Harshwardhan, 150 Municipal Councillors under leadership of Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya setout on a protest march from Palika Bazar to Nirman Bhawan to protest against sealing operations being carried out in Delhi.

Delhi Police stopped this rally near Jantar Mantar on Parliament Street and arrested the Councillors so that they could not go upto Nirman Bhawan to present Memorandum to Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy for stopping the sealing operations.

Later, they were released at Parliament Police Station after detention.

Mr Arya, while addressing the media, said that to gain political mileage, the Congress-led Delhi and Central Governments are giving relief in installments to citizens of Delhi as a result of which Delhiites are not getting comprehensive relief.

BJP is demanding that General Amnesty Scheme should be promulgated through an ordinance and complete relief shall be provided to citizens of Delhi. Relief in installments is not justified since, the properties which are sealed and later relief is provided then, such properties are not benefited.

If government wants to give relief to citizens of Delhi against sealing then it is imperative that General Amnesty Scheme should be brought out in which all the aspects are covered.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Jagdish Mukhi, through a press statement, requested the Urban Development Minister to bring an Amnesty Scheme to give immediate relief to Delhi Govt.

Prof Mukhi said the announcements made by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken are not sufficient.
