Review India-Sri Lanka agreement on Kutchativu island: Left
New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The Left Front today demanded ''re-opening and review'' of the India-Sri Lanka Agreement on Kutchativu Island in view of its strategic importance and to protect the rights of Indian fishermen.
Mr D Raja (CPI) said in the Rajya Sabha during Zero Hour that the agreement which was signed by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Mrs Srimavo Bandaranaike, ensured protection of the rights of Indian fishermen.
However, after 1983, problems started arising as Sri Lanka was at war with LTTE.
He cautioned that India too could be affected as the island had become a ''gray area''.
He called for reopening and review of the agreement.
