Jammu, Apr 30 (UNI) Five people were wounded in an intra-party workers' clash at Marh assembly constituency here in Jammu and Kashmir today, police sources said.

Supporters of two National Conference (NC) factions clashed over the claim for getting the credit of the upgradation of a government high school, Gol Gujral, to a higher secondary level.

''Supporters of sitting MLA and NC provincial president Ajay Sadhotra and one Jagdev Singh Jagga took out sharp-edged weapons against each other for claiming the credit of upgradation'' a police source said.

Last evening supporters of the MLA had installed a stone in the name of Mr Sadhotra at school premises which Mr Jagga's faction removed. ''When the MLA's people again attempted to install the same, the supporters of the second NC leader came to the spot and clashed,'' sources said.

Five people, identified Tarandeep Singh (son of Mr Jagga), Sahil Bhagat, Sajjan Singh, Gajinder Singh Shikari and his son Prince were critically wounded in the clash. They were shifted to the government medical college and hospital, Jammu, police said.

Police have registered a case under section 307 Indian penal code (applicable in J&K) and started inquest proceedings.
