Hnahthial district not likely:CM
Aizawl, Apr 30(UNI) Despite intense struggle for district status by the Hnahthial district demand committee, Chief Minister Zoramthanga has made it clear that the same is not likely.
This is due to the demand committee's 'failure' to convince the people in other constituencies who are to fall under the proposed Hnahthial district.
The chief minister had stated that there should be at least three constituencies under a district. He made this statement while touring his home Champhai constituency today, according to official sources.
The sources quoted the CM as saying that he had indeed promised a Hnahthial district, but 'on condition' that there was a consensus among the people of the affected constituencies--Hnahthial, Tawipui South and Vanva.
''The Hnahthial district demand committee has ignored the 'on condition' part of my statement in which I promised the district status,'' Zoramthanga was quoted.
To cement Zoramthanga's stand, several villages under constituencies other than Hnahthial have expressed their opposition to the demand for the district.
Meanwhile, Hnahthial MLA F Lalthanzuala visited members of the district demand committee, undergoing an indefinite fast at MSU office here today. The MLA, who has been called a 'traitor' by his constituents, gave Rs 1000 to the hunger strikers.
Demand committee chairman C Pakunga, who joined the fast last evening, vowed to 'sacrifice' his life to fulfil the demand.
