Silchar, April 30 (UNI) With a view to meeting the immediate human resource requirements of IT and ITeS industries, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here will conduct an eight-week finishing school programme for engineering graduates from next week.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, NIT Silchar Director P K Banik said the programme will be conducted as per the directives of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development.
''The purpose of the finishing school programme is to provide opportunities for students who could not secure jobs through campus placements. They will acquire the skills and knowledge from the trained faculty of the NITs and experts of the IT and ITeS industries during the programme,'' he said.
Mr Banik said eight other NITs and IITs in the country had conducted the finishing school programmes last year on a pilot basis.
He also said NIT Silchar, which was bestowed with the status of deemed university in 2002, had topped the 20 NITs all over the country in terms of placement.
He said during 2007-08, 49 reputed companies visited NIT Silchar campus for placement. The NIT had arranged 422 job offers for 191 students, the director said.
