Centre importing 10 lakh metric tonne of edible oils for BPL
Jaipur, Apr 30 (UNI) The Centre is importing 10 lakh metric tonne edible oils for disbursement to families below poverty line (BPL) at a subsidised price, Union Food and Civil Supply Secretary T Nandkumar said.
Talking to reporters here today Mr Nandkumar said ''the government had ordered import of Soyabean and Palm Oil. This would be available by June 2008 for distribution among poor families.'' He said that one litre edible oil would be provided to each BPL family every month through PDS network at subsidised rate of Rs 42.
Mr Nandkumar said that there was no crisis of wheat in the country and even in Delhi wheat was available in open market at the rate of Rs 1,100 per quintal against the government support price of Rs 1,000.
The Secretary was in the town to review the ongoing process of wheat procurement in the state.
