Bangalore journalists get award

Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) A documentary, titled 'Death Knell to Nilgiri Biosphere,' on the proposed controversial 1000 mw coal-based thermal power plant at Chamalapur, near Mysore, produced by city based journalists Maya Jaideep and K G Vasuki has won the Silver award of the Indian Documentary Producers Association.

The award was presented to the producers at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai on April 26.

According to a release issued by the documentary producers here today, the documentary, apart from dealing with people's protests on the issue, also dwelt in length on the ecological disaster and hazards a thermal plant could bring about.

The documentary, produced in Kannada and English, had recorded the people's movement against the proposed project in the Nilgiris biosphere, leading to widespread protests from farmers, environmentalists and the common people living in the area coming under the proposed project, the release added.
