Guwahati, Apr 30 (UNI) The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Asom Gana Parishad(AGP-P) today staged separate programmes to oppose the price hike of essentials.
While the AGP(P) took out a rally to the Raj Bhawan, the AGP sat on a dharna in their party office demanding immediate intervention of the state government as well as protesting its 'incompetence' in curbing the price hike.
For the AGP-P former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta led a long rally and submitted a memorandum to the Assam Governor seeking his intervention. They also demanded immediate steps to protect flood affected people and the embankments of the river Brahamputra.
Meanwhile, Guwahati city unit of the AGP staged a dharna against price rise. Leaders like Kamala Kalita, Jatin Mali and Alaka Desai Sharma took part. They also threatened to intensify the stir if prices were not checked.
