Kolkata, Apr 29 (UNI) A solar power plant would be set up at the industrial hub of Haldia with German technologies with an initial investment of Rs 4000 crore, State Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen said today.
Mr Sen, who led a business delegation to different states of Germany recently, told mediapersons that Centrothirm of Germany would take the ''leading role'' in setting up the power plant project which also included a captive power plant.
Besides Centrothirm, he said, one US and two Indian companies were also taking part in the joint venture adding 200 acres of land had already been allotted for the project.
''The solar power plant is expected to generate 500 MW of power annually at the initial stage and increase its capacity later to help the industrial rejuvenation in West Bengal,'' Mr Sen observed.
The Minister said during his various meetings with business leaders in Germany, investment opportunities in different sectors in West Bengal, including automobile and bio-technology, were discussed.
He said during his programmes to factory sites in Germany, he also visited the BayernOil Refinery in Ingolstadt which is being transplanted by the Cals Refinery in Haldia.
During his visit from April 10 to 20, Mr Sen had discussions with the Ministers of Economic Affairs in Bavaria, Lower Saxony and Baden Wurttemberg, interacted with business companies and Chambers of Commerce in Munich, Hannover, Stuttgart and Berlin and also inaugurated the Bengal Business Centre in Munich.
