Govt says, gas from Turkmenistan may flow to India by 2014

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) The government today said it is pursuing import of natural gas from Turkmenistan through the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Gas Pipeline Project.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha Patel said gas from TAPI is expected to flow to India from Turkmenistan in 2014, which is projected to supply 90 MMSCMD of gas.

Gas utilisation by Afghanistan will be about to 5.0 MMSCMD during the first and second year and 14 MMSCMD from the third year onward, with remaining quantity of gas propose to be equally shared by India and Pakistan on successful completion of the project, the Minister added.

The Minister further said a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ministry of Oil/Gas Industry and Mineral Resources of Turkmenistan was signed in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on April 5, 2008, during the visit of Uprashtrapatiji to Turkmenistan in order to establish an institutional relationship to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of oil and gas.
