Rupnagar, Apr 29 (UNI) The body of a missing college student was retrieved today from Bhakra Mainline Canal following which the police booked the principal, a teacher and others of Institute of Engineering and Technology(IET), Bhaddal near here for abeting the suicide.
As per information a case under sectionn 306 of IPC has been registered against IET Principal Dr V P Singh, teacher Nitin Sham and others at Rupnagar Sadar police station on the complaint of deceased student Gaurav Wahi's father and former Rupnagar Municipal Council president Ashok Kumar Wahi.
In his complaint, Mr Wahi alleged that Gaurav, a first year student of computer scince in IET, was turned out of the classroom by his teacher Nitin Sham on April 16 for making a noise. Later, principal Dr V P Singh also issued notice imposing a fine of Rs10,000 on Nitin and asked him to bring his parents to meet IET Chief Exceutive Officer Ravinder Singh.
Mr Wahi alleged that his son became upset due to the harsh actions of the IET authorities and committed suicide. Gaurav's body was recovered from Bhakra Mainline Canal near floating restaurant Sirhind this morning, five days after he committed suicide, by jumping into canal near village Salora on Rupnagar-Morinda road.
Rupnagar SSP Praveen Kumar Sinha said police had started investigations after registering the case.
It may be mentioned that following suicide by Gaurav, the students of the institute had gone on strike, which turned violent as students damaged the institute property worth lakhs of rupees after lathicharge by police.
At least two people were injured in the violence.
The authorties have closed the institute till May 5 in view of the student unrest.
