New Delhi, Apr 29 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today demanded the removal of Shipping and Transport Minister T R Baalu from the Union Cabinet for misusing his official position by seeking favour for his family-owned private firm.

In the BJP's Parliamentary Party meeting here this morning, The Leader of Opposition and the party's Prime Ministerial candidate, L K Advani addressed the Party MPs on the issue.

Alleging that PMO was directly involved in the matter, BJP's spokesman, V K Malhotra demanded a statement from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"It is a government of tainted ministers. The Prime Minister needs to come clear on the issue," Malhotra told reporters after the meeting.

Meanwhile, Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi, on Monday, said: "The PMO had forwarded the requests to the Ministry. There is no question of endorsing or agreeing with the contents."

On April 23, Baalu had admitted to asking favours for a family-owned firm and told the Rajya Sabha, that there was nothing wrong in requesting the Petroleum Minister to provide gas to the company, in which he had held the post of Managing Director and now his sons and their wives are associated with the firm.
