Amendments in MPD 2021 in process for relief from sealing:Maken

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Reiterating the Congress-led UPA Government's commitment to provide relief to the people from the ongoing sealing, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken today said the Ministry had set in process some amendments in the 2021 Master Plan of Delhi to help those who had been left out of the puview of the plan.

Addressing newspersons here, Mr maken said the process of amendments had started and they would be notified in a month's time after completion of necessary formalities.

Among the amendments in the MPD 2021 being moved by the Urban Development Ministry are fixing number of shops allowed in a plot measuring 20 sq m as per the number of dwellings permissible on the plot, registration of shops and commercial establishments in the special areas like Walled city, Chandni chowk, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj and Sadar Bazar, which will be resumed for a period of 90 days without any penalty.

The amendments also include conducting of survey in urbanised villages, regularised unauthorised colonies and village areas for establishing the extent of commercial use for notification as mixed use areas or commercial streets, treating the limit to which Lal Dora had been generally extended as a residential use zone and permitting use of basements to any of the professional activity.

Other amendments in process by the Urban Development Ministry include allowing tution centres and coaching centres in Group housing societies as also those on maximum 500 sq m area without plot size restriction in pre-1962 colonies on a minimum nine m road width.

Amendment is also in process to allow the MCD to carry out, in the next six months, survey on regularised unauthorised colonies and villages where MCD did not carry our survey of roads for their identificaton as mixed use areas and commercial streets.

Another amendment in process does away with the requirement of traders in special areas having to pay ten times of the annual conversion charges for the year 2006-07.

Further, the MCD has been asked to send the list of already surveyed or pending list of roads designated as mixed use areas or commercial streets to the Delhi government for notification.

Under active consideration, the government is to permit in 20 sq m shops in DDA flats more than the already permitted 24 types of activities or items. Similarly, projections in the form of chajjas which are 10-12 ft above ground level may also be permitted so as to not cause problem or obstructions to traffic.
