Puducherry, Apr 29 : Close on the heels of the workers of the government owned Anglo-French Textile (AFT) mills calling off their agitation and resuming duty today, the officers and staff of the mill began a strike stating that there was no security for them in the mill.
Submitting a memorandum to Managing Director Mr Balu, the agitators said unless the management created a cordial atmoshphere and provide security to them in the mill they would not report for duty.
Later, the memorandum was forwarded to the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, the AFT workers, who were on a relay fast for the past 34 days and organised a bandh here yesterday, demanding dearness allowance to them on par with the officers and staffs of the mill, called off their agitation and resumed duty.
With the calling off the stir, the officers and staff, who feared that the workers might show their ire towards them, met Mr Babu and told him that they would not attend duty till a cordial atmosphere was created in the mill.
