Imphal, Apr 28: The Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) has called for a series of agitations to protest the reservation policy followed by the University.

The students today called a strike within the campus and also decided to boycott the visit of a UGC team. Sources from the union said the tribal population in the state was more than 32 per cent, whereas, only 12 per cent reservation was provided to them. Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said the state government had no say in the reservation policy of the university as was a Central university.

However, he assured that the state government would urge the Union Human Resources Ministry to fulfill the demands of the tribal students.

MU officials said the university was following the norms laid down for all central universities and it could not change the guidelines on its own.
