Bhopal, Apr 28 (UNI) Telecasting industry representatives today said the responsibilities of multi-system operators (MSOs) and local cable operators (LCOs) should be clearly determined for better quality telecast.

At a public hearing organised here by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), to elicit the opinion of parties concerned, speakers from various parts of Madhya Pradesh said the two-decade-old cable telecast industry was struggling against fresh challenges in the digital era.

The speakers said customers wished for better quality telecast as direct-to-home services were now available, but in the present scenario MSO and LCO were reliant on each other when it came to quality, which had several technical aspects. It was felt that MSO and LCO be granted concessions.

Among those present were TRAI members A K Sahni and R N Prabhakar, Principal Advisor R N Choubey, Advisor S K Gupta and Secretary R K Arnold.

''Such hearings have taken place at Lucknow and Ahmedabad. After more hearings, TRAI will submit suggestions to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry,'' said Mr Sahni.
